Farmall 130 wiring schematic

Postby howhow1 » Wed Jul 26, 2017 6:51 pm

Just bought a 130 which has the generator replaced with what looks like a car alternator with one wire connected to it .
The ign coil says 6v on it
it came with a new 6v battery
I would like to get the charging system working and the lights working
If I'm correct I think it might have been partially changed over to 12v ???
and am in need of a schematic of :?: :?: a 12v retrofit kit schematic
or just how to check the system out
I plan to check the lights with a 6v battery first to see how bright/if they work
are there schematics on the forum?
any help would be appreciated

Howard

Before you do anything, identify the alternator. There will be a sticker, or numbers stamped/embossed on the alternator some where. Then an internet search using the identification numbers to determine the voltage.

If you can not identify the alternator, take it to a repair shop to be tested. Auto parts store may be able to identify and test the alternator.

They do make 6 volt alternators, pretty rare.

Once the alternator's voltage and condition have been determined - then you can decide what to do.

30 Jul edit. You also need to determine if the alternator is a true single wire alternator or a 3 wire alternator.
I have an excuse. CRS.

update
I took the alternator to an auto electric shop telling the man it was a 12v neg ground unit being there were no markings except "BAT" on the unit
he checked it quick and said there was a direct short
so long story short after disassembling it & checking the compoenents which seemed ok
back to the shop the owner did some research- with only a serial number on the rectifier
and found out that the unit is a 6V Pos ground alternator ! he put it on his machine connecting
accordingly and it checked out fine!
