Super A valve seals

Postby Big Mike » Sun Jan 28, 2018 9:51 am

Though I haven't yet removed the valves from my Super A head I can't see any valve seals on the guides. Shouldn't there be seals on the valves or am I missing something?

Since you are rebuilding the Super A's engine, I would install valve guide seals.

I don't know if your Super A engine originally came with valve guide seals installed.

Back in the middle ages I owned several in line 6 cylinder, 1950 era Chevy pickups. Every time I did an engine overhaul, I installed valve guide seals.

Dang, wish I had stored some of my then old pickups/vehicles in the barn. Back in the early 1960s you could purchase a 1950 or so Ford or Chevy for $100-.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Thanks Eugene. I've lapped the valves today and my engine apparently never had valve seals so I put it back together as found. Some of the valves were fairly new and I'm sure the guides were replaced as they were all a good snug fit. Thanks for your help and I feel your pain on those old 50's trucks.....wish I still had some of mine too.

I had a 1950 Ford Custom Delux Club Coupe, engine went. Sold it for I think $25 or $35-. Really liked the car. Few years back I saw one in rough shape at a local gas station with a for sale sign. A messed up sign on the drivers side said $1100-, told the wife I was going to buy it. Walked around to the drivers side and the sign said $11,000-.

Edit: Sold a1950 Ford 3/4 pickup for $500- about 5 years back. The pickup had a complete cab but no bed. Good title, 54/55 Ford engine which barely fit. Son didn't want me to sell until I told him that I had been paying $50- a year for Iowa license.
