Use Hy-Tran or equiv. in your hydraulic system.

Yes, Hy-Tran is available from IH. IMO it is worth the expense to run the "good stuff" in the hydraulic system.

Transmission and rear end I would use 85/140 wt. gear oil. By the time the 140 came along they might have recommended Hy-Tran there too, but I believe if it was mine I would use gear oil. The bull gear housings are separate from the rear end so don't forget them.

Around here most people use 30wt. oil in these engines. It depends on your climate. Pick your favorite brand.

While you are at the caseIH dealer, don't forget your engine oil filter....

My 140 is a 1959, and takes that paper metal type filter, LF 305(Hastings)Ridge Kramer, or the c-123, I believe(Fram), Tractor Supply. Those may be slightly less expensive. I always have trouble with the small four inch rubber seal under the canister, it has to be just so to rest on top of it so it doesn't pinch it and leak.
It is a little like placing the round canister and centering it on top of the skinny seal.

Also, I have had a tiny (1) sand grain or pebble get in that groove and prevent the seal from seating. You probably won't have that trouble but I thought I'd share what I know has caused small headaches before. They are a wonderful machine, IMO.
