Pulled the front axle off today.
The steering is quite sloppy, sometimes 3/4 of a turn before anything starts moving.
One problem could be this worn Pilot Shaft Bushing (toward rear) it is almost oval and the shaft just flops around inside.
Anyone ever swap these bushings? There are two. they look to be about 2" long each and are pressed down into pilot shaft support.

I've replaced them on my Cub. Quite pricey,I think $40.00 a piece.

Scary.
I put an order into CaseIH dealer for a quote on all 6 bushings for the axle.
4 for the steering knuckles, and 2 for the axle pivot.
How do you get the old bushings out?

I had to split my bushings with a chisel. A hacksaw blade helps too.

Tom,
How did the new ones go back in?
Did the pivot shaft go back in easy.
I have read where people have had trouble getting the shaft to fit in the new bushings.

I can't say on this forum. I'll be banned for life. Maybe not that bad, but it was extremly hard for me. you don't want to mushroom over the shaft so I used a sacraficial socket that just fit over the shaft for pounding purposes. The better way would be to use a press, and I did it by myself on my Cub (did it twice). I would get some help and use a press if you can. The bushings go in easy.

One more thing. Remember to put the shaft in so the cut outs in the shaft line up with bolts that hold it in. One more thing to think about.
