Farmall Cub

I have read that there were durability issues when the one-point hitch was first introduced on the 100. I also remember it saying they were quickly resolved. Does anyone know what was changed or strengthened? Will a Super A handle a plow on a fasthitch without breaking?

I don't have an answer to your question but would like to add to it as I came home with some questions of my own. Is there a difference between a fasthitch for a 100, 130, 140, A or Super A? Are these the only tractors other than a cub that took the single point? I know the 300 series had the weird two point set up that was a smaller than the prong than both the single point and two point of the bigger tractors. How hard are they to find and how much should one be looking to spend?

Johnny, leave the A out of that listing, there were no hydraulics till the Super A, so not fast hitch either.

Thanks, I noticed that the no A's never seem to have hydraulics which must be why they always seem so cheap. I've been looking for a project with the right price in one of the above mentioned. Guess I'll rule the A out.

I don't think there's any difference to amount to between a 100-130-140 Fast Hitch. THe hitch I put on one of my Super A's came from a 140. I paid about $650 for it, only thing missing was the helper spring. I think JP Tractor Salvage typically have Fast Hitches in stock.

Super A's didn't come factory with a Fast Hitch, though it is in the last edition of the Super A parts book. Looks like it could be a dealer installed option or retro fit.

The cultivision tractors---100-130-140 (and Super A if you add one) and Cub all used the one point fast hitch with a "big" prong. The Super C, 200, 230, and 240 (I may be forgetting a model or two after the 240) used a two point fast hitch with small prongs. The 300, 400, 350, 450, 460, 560, and other tractors right on up to the 966 used the two point fast hitch with the "big" prongs.

I have never heard of any specific complaint about breaking stuff on the Fast Hitch. When looking for one, look for breaks, bends, and welds....

Thanks now I'm educated. One more thing. I see model A's with snow plows on them on Craigslist a lot. Does that mean the hydraulics have been added aftermarket and Would there be any reason to think there would be an issue adding a fast hitch to a model a like this.

A true A would be impossible to put a fast hitch on it, a lot of folks dont know a straight A from a Super A

I'm sure you could adapt a fast hitch to a plain A, but it would not be simple.

The implement mounting holes on the final drive of the A are different from the Super A/100/130/140, so the fast hitch will not even bolt to the tractor.

Hydraulics on a plain A are typically just an old power steering pump crudely cobbed onto the side of the engine and driven by the generator belt.
