# 16223 J. 6 or 12 volt?

Postby Johnny Williams » Sat Feb 22, 2014 6:05 pm

Hey guys, this is my first post but I am a long time lurker. I found this little sweetly beside of the I road yesterday and she followed me home. After a tune up and new coil and ballast resistor she sounds solo sweet. When I found her she had a 12 volt battery that was dead so we tried jumping her to no avail, and now I know why, any way I thought she was spinning over pretty fast but was told that " they were all 12 volt from the factory". The numbers on the generator, as best as I can tell, are 14 V GD 0314. The starter is Delco Remy 1107093 1K 20 I think.

That would have been a 6v from the factory, but it could have been converted some time in it's life.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

It is a 140. After a quick google search the numbers on the generator turned up no information but according to the charge gauge it is charging so I guess I can ASSume it is a 12 volt generator?

That tractor was originally 6 volt and the generator looked the same as the later models that had a 12 volt generator. It could have been swapped at some point but It could be still 6 volt.

Thanks for all of the information guys. It looks like the starter is toast but the engine seems to be sound and not smoking. Does anyone know of a reliable starter/alternator/generator guy in the Monroe, Charlotte areas of North Carolina?

I found Jerry through a friend in Stanly County. I took the generator and starter to him this morning and he fixed them as I waited and watched and for a VERY reasonable price. thanks for all of the help guys, I am sure I will have many more questions. Bye the way the tractor has had a 12 volt regulator put on so now don't just reverse the wires on amp gauge?
