Farmall Cub

I have a 140 and the cultivators are, shall we say,loose. Has anyone used bushings to tighten up the frame or is it just something that we live with? I should also add that I do not have a home machine shop. I know that trueing the shafts and holes and using bushings is the best way, and expensive if you must hire the work done, to fix this issue. Has anyone tried shim stock and shaft collier to keep the shim stock from working its way out? Would the shim stock be too soft?
Did the newer a144's come with grease fittings or is this something that you put graphite in and hope for the best?

We'll damn, must have been a stupid question. I mean it looks like several people were MAYBE interested in an overhaul of the cultivators.

Not a stupid question at all. Mine had some slop, but I worked through all the pieces, including the shanks. Loose, wore out bolts get replaced, bent pieces get straightened. I'll never get 100% of the slop out, but mine are fairly tight and I work the "looseness" into the adjustment and they work just fine.

That is what I have been doing, I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track. Also wanted to see if there were any other ideas out there.

You can tighten the bolts at each pivot point and take out the slack, at least to a point. It was designed that way.

Already done that Al, but thanks for the reminder. Most if not all of my slop seems to be the round pegs in the oblong holes....

I have a set with the same problem. I think a machine shop could come up with a set of sleeves to fix it.

That is what I have been thinking Super A but a machine shop is a pretty spendy proposition. Even with over time chasing a little pig through a pipe line I guess I will just live with it for now. I will need something to do this winter anyway.

Hey Johnny, don't take lack of immediate responses personally. These "other tractors" forums are kind of lightly traveled compared to the main Cub forum if you didn't notice already.

People don't answer because they don't know the answer. Better to not say anything at all than give bad advice, though that doesn't stop me sometimes!!!
