6 inches long and attaches to one of the bolts that goes through the back of the battery box and into the instrument panel. A reasonable argument can be made for using a longer braided ground strap and attaching it to one of the bolts that holds the instrument panel to the bell housing.
Jim is right, the bell housing connection is a good one and it is easy to make sure it is clean and secure. That's what I did....18" or so should do it
Question came up because old battery box turned to stuff, so I bought an aftermarket box and it has a slot and a grommet on the left side of the box instead of a bolt hole to fasten it to the instrument box.
I however found out that the correct strap is available from CaseIH, BUT they are rather proud of it $48.00
Now it’s just trying to get the spot cleaned up & ready to mount the new box, already got the broken mounting bolt out of the instrument box
Sounds like the wrong box, or maybe they make the same box for a zillion different models. The only cable notch in the box should be the right front corner.
I never liked how they did the ground cable on the Super A, C, etc. On one of my Super As, I cut a small notch in the bottom left rear corner of the battery box and threaded the braided ground strap down the side of the battery, through the notch and fastened it to one of the spots on the bellhousing where the battery box bracket attaches. With the lid on the box, you have to look hard to tell anything's been modified.
