Replacing Inner Leaking Rear Axle Seals

Postby oldredtractor230 » Fri Oct 09, 2015 6:54 pm

Hello Everyone! My 230 has been leaking oil from the rear axle since I got it. I have ordered a new inner axle seal as well as a new outer seal. After some reading it appears that to get to the inner seal, the easiest way is go through the PTO and remove the bull gear. I removed the PTO tonight and I am now lost on where the bull gear is and how to access the inner seal. I will try and post a picture. Any advice on how to replace the inner seal would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my lack of knowledge but I have really enjoyed my 230. Thanks.

Well I decided to just replace the outer seal and gasket. Hopefully this will fix the problem. So far there isn't any leaks.

The bull gears are the two largest gears - one on each side - that you see in there. The axle can't come off until they are removed, which is done by removing the fasteners in the center.
