Hydraulics

Postby ajhbike » Fri Oct 13, 2017 6:03 am

SC-I don't know much about hydraulics and I have to remove the hoses from the valve block to do 2 things. The connections on the back end are the old breakaway type couplings and I need a couple of 3 foot hoses to go from them to the cylinder. I don't know the type of male connector that mates with these breakaway couplings or if they are available or their cost. Otherwise, I will need to replace them and get new 6 or 7 footers.

However, I don't know if when I remove the hoses at the valve whether all the oil will leak out of the TC. If not, then good...if so then I will need plugs. Can anyone answer? Thanks.

Those should be quick disconnects which can be handy to have if you were to attach something other than your lift cylinder. Either way the oil will not drain out of your TC because the control valve the hoses are connected to is closed until the valve is activated.

The squeaky wheel may get the grease but it's usually the first to be replaced!

thank you. I would live to just have to buy a 2 ft hose as opposed to a 7 ft.

These breakaway connections must have some significance because the guy I bought it from was PO'ed that he included them in the deal. Or maybe not.

I'm not sure about "breakaway" couplers but standard female quick disconnects are $20 - $25 and up (cheaper if you shop around or on-line) depending on the size/style. I did a quick search for the breakaway style similar to yours and didn't find much. To match up to what you have may be a struggle and judging from the prices listed for similar parts for JD they may be pretty expensive, others more familiar with this style setup may chime in. I'm guessing your best bet to even locate something is through a tractor salvage place or someone from this site. I'm not a purest when it comes to these old tractors (my SC didn't have any sort of disconnect) so I think I'd replace what you have with a standard disconnect setup. ...or like you mentioned, replace it all with two new hoses.
