Super C Water Temp Gauge

I am wondering 2 things:

-My water temp gauge is messed up and the thermocouple is cut. Is the fitting on the radiator a simple screw in type connection? I am worried about fooling around down there because if I break or crack something there goes the radiator. Risky business?

-The overflow tube is broken off of the neck of the radiator cap stem. Is it essential that it be repaired? It isn't leaking and the fluid level is up to where it should be. I don't work it at all so maybe just leave well enough alone?

Got it, thanks. What do you think about the overflow tube? Leave it alone?
