My Cub now has a BIG brother. I've always wanted a W-9, but most were too far away or too expensive. This one was less than an hour away and within my budget (came with a rebuilt starter). It wasn't running, but after filing and cleaning the points, it had spark and would run briefly with gas dribbled into the carburetor. The carb is now apart and I plan to rebuild it this week.

The -9 series were certainly beastly creatures to say the least! Hope you get it running without much trouble....

Thanks! It's on the verge of running, now. The carb has lots of loose rust and scale inside, so I'm hoping a rebuild does the trick. Here's the W-9 on the trailer.

Re: 1950 McCormick W-9
She's running! After getting spark from the mag (filed points), I took apart the carb, which was a huge mess. The gas tank is rusty, and it looked like rust and sediment literally filled the top passages of the carb- all the way to the end of the 3" length of steel fuel line. I also installed a few new carb parts. It seems to be a strong, good running machine.
Here's a little video clip of it running:

Re: 1950 McCormick W-9
aren't these like non-rowcrop versions of Ms? or was that the W-6? I can't remember. Anyways, looks awesome! I'd love to have one of those

Re: 1950 McCormick W-9
The W-6 is the standard (non-rowcrop) version of the M. The W-9 is beefier and has a 335 cubic inch engine. I always wanted one, but they're not very common in eastern Indiana. This one was in Kansas before the previous owner brought it to Indiana.

No row crop equiv. of the w-9.---the only equiv. is the T-9 or T-D 9 diesel crawlers/loaders! they used the 9 engine! thanks; sonny

IH should probably have built a row crop W/WD9. The JD G and the Oliver 88 both had a little (not much) more HP than the M Farmall. It might also have forced IH to re-evaluate their drive train design before the 460/560 screw-up.
