I can't identify the tractor. 230? 240? The rear wheels look too small, but I'm not used to seeing them in that position.

Farmall 350 or 450. Picture is too grainy for me to tell for sure.

I agree with the good job of straping it down. Could have been worse with a Tractor skidding down the road.

Talk about making you sick!! Good chains. Still chained to the trailer. The other guys insurance probably won't pick up the cost to repair or replace tractor. Thats too bad.

After all these posts I finally get it. I thought it was the guy towing the trailer with a high end SUV who was distracted by the laptop, causing a jackknife. This is a lot different. Of course a third party should be responsible for any damage he causes... even an illegal without insurance. At least a couple pounds of flesh.

I am inclined to think it is a 350. If you look close it has the "all plastic" steering wheel with the big "shiny" center cap instead of the one with exposed metal spokes like the earlier tractors back thru the H and M had. But it doesn't have the white grille stripes on the hood like the 50 series. But it does have the white grille!

Either way, it is a shame. At least the tractor stayed on the trailer, if it had've come loose, things could have been a lot more tragic. It did just what I say I want my tractor to do if it is ever in an accident--if the trailer is torn loose, flips 5 times, and comes to rest upside down, I still want that tractor tied tight to it!!

Wow... I hate stupid people. I really really hate stupid people.

I once had a kid in an S-10 run into the front axle on my Ford 7000 Row Crop. The tractor is turbo'ed, tuned up to 105 hp, and weighted down to 11,000. He didn't hurt the tractor, aside from taking a chunk out of my tire, and bending the the front spindle. IT threw me half off the operators platform and I had a bruise from the steering wheel. The official police report noted 161 feet of skid marks from 2 tires on teh same axle. ( his fronts) The posted speed limit on the road is 40 mph, and since it was a blind hump he came over, he should have been going even slower. Again... I hate stupid people.


I'm glad about the tie down job. PA State Police are on a big mission with trucks pulling trailers. A while back, whitin the past year, a driver of a dump truck was pulling a wood chipper in metro Pittsburgh. The wood chipper broke loose fromt eh dump truck, headed into oncoming traffic and killed a man and 2 of his 3 four year old triplets, leaving his third triplet in the hospital, and his wife a widow. Ever since then, they have been cracking down hard on EVERYBODY who is towing a trailer. It is very important that if you are traveling near Pittsburgh on yoru way to Cubfest that you strap everything down, and make sure every T is crossed and I is dotted. I have been pulled over on 3 occasions for "random" spot checks for proper tie downs and trailer connections. I have only been fined once out of the 3 times, because my wheel chocks were not tied down "properly" in the bed of my truck. (when in doubt, use 2 bungee cords)

So yeah, I am very happy for the tractor owner that he had it tied down good, because I am sure those State Police went over that thing with a fine tooth comb. Had it killed the driver of the Benz, we would be hearing nothing but, "waa waa waa, he got killed by a tractor, waa waa waa, tractors shouldn't be allowed ont eh roads, waa waa waa, I need warning labels on my coffee because I am too stupid to know it's hot, oh the humanity!!!" ahem... sorry... I hate stupid people. yanno there were 2 guys who got this bright idea on how to get rid of a hedge between their properties. They were gonna start up the push mower, and lift it up overtop of the hedge and set it down on the shrub to "mulch" it. Both guys lost 8 fingers each when they picked the mower up under the deck to lower it on the shrub. The funny part is, there was a warning label on teh deck with a picture of a guy getting his fingers chopped off!!! Now I know why those decals exsist, and guess what, apparently if you are stupid enough, you ignore the stickers and do it anyway! I seriously think driver's liscences should be awarded the same way that the court system works. a jury of our peers should get to vote on whether we should be allowed on the roads. Those DOT examiners don't get to see half of what people do after they pass that test. I had a guy pass me in a 65mph zone, in the right lane, on a motorcycle, one hand on the handlebars, and talking on the cellphone, wearing shorts, no helmet and a T-shirt. Someone should be allowed to legally take away his liscence before he hurts himself. Not that I really care about him. I care about me, and how I would have to live the rest of my life knowing that I ran over and crushed a guy with my diesel truck, and have to live with that image and sound and crunching feeling for the rest of my life. HE wouldn't care, he's dead! His family would forever know me as "the guy who ran poor little Jimmy over." I would relive that moment and try to rationalize how I could have prevented it, and agonize. I would be deeply affected, and that infringes on my rights to feel like I am not endangering the lives of others just by driving on the same roads as them. I HATE STUPID PEOPLE

The money can be replaced...the blood, sweat, tears, and pride can NEVER be replaced.

THat makes me sick - I cant imagine how that guy feels. I guess let this be a serious reminder lets be careful goin to cubfest. I'd hate to read a second article similar to this......

Being a Over the road truck driver for over 28 years Ive seen some really stupid people do some really stuipid things while driving. Just thank God everyones ok. Mike

After 2 years of loving, painstaking work, who knows how much money.. just to have it destroyed by an idiot too stupid to be allowed on the roads... I have a favourite expression.. sort of a bit like too stupid to..... or dumber than a stick.. is enough to make someone sick to their stomach and is an act thata should not go unpunished.

That flake should be made to not only pay for the replacement tractor, but be forced to do all of the work under the direct supervision of the owner of the tractor he destroyed to start.. gotta think about the rest.

The thought that comes to mind is twin barbed for me. what a georgous piece of workmanship, the effort, the expense, the time, etc. but, if there had been a loss of life, on either side of the equation, would have made these ideas pale and shallow by comparison. I'm sorry for the gentelmans loss, I can certainly feel for him but, it really could have been worse.
