howdy!
there has been a 300 "Utility" for sale for a loooong time (at least a year) nearby me, and i'm wondering about it. here's some info:
s/n: 30876SJ
tranny housing #: 3604860R4
what i would call the "head": 3 26 B
and another block #: 4 12 B
it has wheel weights front & back; a big plow on front; and a thing on the back which receives a two-point hitch implement (the "fast hitch"? - looks nothing like a Cub fast hitch, tho).
the phone number rings busy so far this morning....
what year? what's it worth? i'm thinking maybe they're asking too much, it has real nice paint, looks original on the tin; the plow & back-end have been repainted...
thanks!
dave

thanks!
gentlemen:
thanks for the responses. i should've been more specific, too... it runs, for sure. it's been moved all around the people's place, and it moves in/out of the shed they have where they have the for sale sign on it; he moves it out a little to "show" it, then pulls it back in at night/inclement weather.
so, since it's sporting a big, heavy plow, i'd hope it has power steering, but i'll have to find out about the torque amplifier. number still rings busy...
thanks, all, i'll keep you posted!

the "scoop"
so, i stopped by tonight... 'course, forgot my camera... but i'll get some pictures soon. here's the details:
it's a 1955, 35 horsepower; he's had it for 20+ years, not the original owner (obviously).
gas motor.
adjustable width front AND rear wheels, loaded rears; good rubber rear, very good front.
block heater.
new steering seals last year.
new ignition.
new belts.
2-point AND 3-point hitches.
new paint last year; comes with manuals.
i'd say it's very nice looking, seems to be in excellent mechanical shape, and the guy was straightforward with me, looked me in the eye, and was a clean-cut, nice guy. however, i was slightly disappointed with his asking price:
with the front blade and front hydraulics - $5700
without blade (and front hydraulics) - $4700
maybe i'm out of line? i guess it doesn't seem way out of line, but y'all can tell me... i'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
thanks!

Looks to be a 1956 300U, From the casting code "B"
Serial Number has a "S" in it means it has a TA w/IPTO
Both David and Sonny are right on. Weakness is the steering!
If it has a loader on it , It better have P/S. Loader beats the front end of it.
I love them, beast of a tractor. Everything a Dairy farmer wanted back in the day. Honey wagon filler. Syracuse winters are tough on them but as you see still going after 50+ years. What's it worth? 3k to 5 k in great shape everything working........just my cub cents........
(p.s. George Willer hates them.....)

thanks, RedNed!
so, he is right in the ballpark, as it is really a nice looking tractor, and according to him has kept it in really nice mechanical shape (his comment was "everything works", including PS and TA, 'cuz i asked him specifically). he said he had researched the 'net to arrive at his price...
i'll get some nice pics tomorrow... ;^)

for that price everything should work 4700 is pretty high for a 300U. I would do a compression test on it too. make sure the pto works. check for casting breaks. There interesting tractors and are nice jobs around the yard. and all the tires shold be in top shape, wheel weights too are a plus. are the rims good have they been loaded with juice? I dont want to discourage you im just trying to point out all the possible areas, and for that price you could get a 460U. so those pics will sure help
Good luck
Andrew
