Steel Wheel Road Bands

Postby Cubsox » Tue Jun 16, 2009 9:30 am

I plan to have road bands made for my 1934 F12 and 1944 H (both on steel). Does anyone have any photos of what they would recommend as a good design? I suppose they could be a single band around the lugs then clamped or welded to connect, or 4 sections of band each attached seperately to the lugs, a full width band or perhaps a 1/2 width band. I suspect once I put them on they will not be needed to be removed.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome,

I would suggest bolting strips of old tire to them for traction loading and unloading. Smooth steel is mighty slick with even the slightest hint of moisture.

Following in EJPs advise, rubber belting would work too (I believe) Something from a quarry would probably work the best. I think it's always reinforced (nylon).
