Ready for Winter???

Our winter is so long it takes a fair amount of preparation... I finally got the plow on the tractor and the new ice-pick tire chains installed, fire wood put away...





The only project left is to pull the dock out of the pond.

I don't have time to make a cab this year but next year I'm going to make a Sunbrella and clear vinyl snap on cover like the ones I put on boats. I have a sailmaker's sewing machine which I use often when re-furbishing boats.

Can't be too ready.

I've got to put the chains on the plow cub yet but otherwise it's ready to go too. My theory here is that if I'm ready I won't probably need it but if I'm not It'll be a bad winter. I guess you guys get a bad winter every year.

Spent the day yesterday moving in some firewood, plow is on the cub . Just need to put the snow thrower on the JD and fab up the cab and hook up a heater. Yup I am a wimpy New Englander, but I do love it here.

Actually we often get a snowy winter but we seldom get a bad winter. Roads a pretty clean within 10 hours of a storm. I expect to come back from hunting in mid November and see 2' of snow on the ground. I have a neighbor who will plow while I'm away. I have to push snow back 20' onto the lawn the first couple of times so that I have room to pile it 8-10' high by the end of the season. The Bad winters are those with little snow and lots of rain/ice. ie: auto accidents, pipes freezing, school closings, power outages, etc.

Vermont's economy is geared towards winter play. Skiing, snowmachineing. etc. I don't ride any more but back in the mid 70's I remember putting 10,000 miles on in one year. We also snow shoe occasionally.

Ready here for winter.Put the plow on the cub,gutters clean,hoses put away,etc,etc.I find when I put the blade on,no snow till December.If I don't put t on,I'm doing it in the snow. Well it was 70 and nice here today,not gonna last long!!! Kevin

I see you are pretty well ready for winter. I am just about there .. maybe done with Ellie by tonight. Hydraulic project is complete, Generator/regulator and wiring harnes is complete... just making a weatherproof polarizing switch for Ellie and the hood goes back on. Then fuel sediment bowl/ball valve/steel gas line/rebuilt carb and I should be about ready. Wood is all in and we is almost as snug as a bug in a rug

Ifn you have the tools and the expertise... sheesh.. if you could get a pattern for the HeatHouser, you could make clear vinyl snap cover copies for those of us who could use em Question, if one was to build a frame how diffiuclt is it to get the snap covers done

Drop curtains on a boat can be quite labor intensive. On a tractor probaly much less. probably 3-4 hours per panel. I was intending to put safety plate glass in for a windshield and then 2 side and one rear cover. I'll let you know when I have it completed.

We are ready for winter, I hope this winter is better than last winter but you can never be too prepared these days. The snow plow equipment really got a work out last year.

Getting closer to being ready for winter, finished filling the sugarhouse with wood last night, still have to put the winter tires on the pickup and change the oil in the plow pump. Hoping we don't need the plow for a few more weeks, at least not till after the ground freezes good, I hate relandscaping the first storm or two.
