656 shifter problems

i have a 1967 ih farmall 656 diesel, the other day the shifter handle started to turn freely and not engaging into gear.
its a 3 speed forward 1 reverse on that gear shfter handle.
i have been looking for a diagram to fix this problem which i do beleive is a pin missing in the shaft from the shifter
any ideas or diagrams would be greatly apreciated

Look at the exploded diagram in the parts catalog. If you don't have the manual, look on-line on the CaseIH web site.

anyways i removed battery and found a pin lying behind it
it came off by the diagram between the shifter levers
there are 2 holes in shaft that comes from shifter handle and not sure which hole to put pin into
- 21 degrees celsius here and tractor stuck in field and i am having problems hanging upside down under dash
laughing out loud
