Farmall Cub

Folks here have talked about the need for a step to help get on the Cub. With these high crops, you would need a step ladder!

Thompson High Crop Conversion. Original Allis Chalmers 1933 - 1957, Guy Fay, has a picture of a WC Allis with the same conversion. Same front end, slightly different rear end set up.

Eugene, What was that conversion for? Doesn't seem crop-friendly with the narrow front end, unless the front end rides between rows as does the rear wheels. Seems rather awkward.

Take a sheet of paper and draw 4 parallel lines representing crop rows. You will find 3 spaces between the 4 parallel lines. Place a tractor tire in the 3 spaces between crop rows. All we had was narrow front end tractors as a kid in Iowa. They would handle 2 row and 4 row crop planting and cultivation. But if we had bigger tractors and equipment we could have use the tricycle tractors on any even numbered crop rows. 2, 4, 6, 8, etc.. The tallest crop we grew was corn. Cultivation took place before the corn was about 2 feet tall.

High crops. I don't know all of the possible uses - any type of task that you didn't want to damage the crop. I have seen IH tractors used to detassel seed corn. Basically a built up tall tractor with sickle bar mowers cutting the tassles off of seed corn stalks. Talked to a guy in California with a really tall Cub used as a crop sprayer.

Thanks, Eugene. I suppose the rows are narrow enough to fit two of them between each rear tire and the fronts. Interesting set up.
