Anyone know Bryan, Texas at all? Came across a very well preserved prototype building located at: 401 South Main Street ~ Bryan, Texas 77803 I'd like to know the name(s) of the dealer(s) that occupied the building. Here is how it looks now: http://brazosvalleydecorativecenter.com/awards.aspxmatt

Matt,
I spent three years in the area, but I was to busy with school to spend much time looking at things not directly related to school.

Matt: That is a really nice building. Great to see it being kept as a part of local history. I would think Jim Becker would know which dealer had that building. Be interesting to find out , no

Matt: I lived at Bryan-College Station from 1967-1972. Like Bill, I was very busy with school work and responsibilities and I don't remember much of what was going on off-campus. Several years ago I could have contacted friends who grew up in the area for info but most of those friends have now passed on. Have you thought of contacting the Chamber of Commerce at Bryan or at College Station to see if they can help? Dan

At the bottom of the link is a phone # for the current building occupant. I would bet that they might be able to tell you about the dealer or refer you to someone who could.

I doubt that the current occupant could tell you a whole lot. I assumed (and have now verified) they are tenants. So I did a few mouse clicks to see what I could find. The current owner of the building is "MAIN STREET PARTNERS LLP" of Bryan TX. The oldest ownership I could find was "BUSH & BLAZEK" who sold the property in late 2007. Searching their name brought me to an interesting document: http://gis.bryantx.gov/public/P&Z/2007/October%2011,%202007/SR-RZ07-39,%20Bryan%20Original%20Townsite.pdfThat was a City of Bryan Planning and Zoning staff report on applying historical designation to the property. This dates to just before Bush & Blazek sold the property. That document explains the history and includes pictures from 2007 and an image from IH Dealer News of April 1948 with a picture of this building, half built, on the cover. From it, I gleaned the following: The building was built in '47 for Central Texas Auto and Hardware Company. The last Harvester related business on the site was Hogan's Trucks. Hogan's is still an International Truck and Cub Cadet dealer, currently located on the east side of town on Highway 21, operating under the name "Hogan's Trucks Unlimited". http://www.hoganstrucks.com/
