Looks a lot like a D-212, maybe an earlier version. The D tractors were an overseas (Europe and Austrailia) model tractor (if I remember correctly). I do not think that many were sold here in the US, if at all.

By the looks of the license plates, I am willing to bet that it is a picture from France or some other place in Europe. There is even a license plate on the tractor in front...

I believe that that tractor is a German International DGD 4. Built at the Nuess factory from 1953 - 1956.

Yep, the DGD-4 looks closer:

But I think I found the same tractor, a German DED-3:

I think that you may be correct there. There was also a smaller 2 cylinder model DLD 2 available. Have a look at this site for more information and pictures. http://www.ihace.de/01_schlepper/schlepper_index.htm

Ok, now there are French IH tractors, German IH tractors, American IH tractors--any other Nationality IH tractors?

Why did they not all share the same design?

Did they have redundant design departments?

I looked at a lot of the tractors on that German site, and honestly, I think those tractors are visually cool, compared to their US counterparts.

Was IH disfunctional back then, or, was it the lack of technology, speed of info ect.. that each country just did their own thing?

There were British made IH's they had a plant in Doncaster and one elsewhere...can't rememeber. IH was a huge corporation much like Ford with plants all over the world. IH sold the rights I believe for the British made line to India's Mihandra Tractor (spelling?). The British line up used the prefix B so you might come across a B212 or something like that. The D must have stood for Deutsch ( german for german).

Dale and others: You might want to check out a book titled "A Corporate Tragedy". It is a history of the International Harvester Corporation.

There are also several other books on the various tractors and equipment made by IH.
