504 2-point hitch

Postby Bob Perry » Mon Mar 03, 2014 1:29 pm

A friend has a Farmall 504, has a chance to buy a 2-point hitch off of a Farmall 460. Does anybody know if the 460's 2-point hitch would go onto the 504? Thanks.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say there's enough of a difference between the 504 and the 460's rear end that it won't work. I may be wrong but I believe the 504 came as three point hitch only.

My father bought a 504 brand new in the mid-60's. It was a utility model, we always had a loader on it, and a TWO-POINT hitch platform carrier which he always kept some slabs of cut granite for weight. I know he bought it new so I have to believe that some 504's had 2-point hitch.

...and who knows if the dealer did some customizing, for example, it arrived at the dealership then I can remember waiting a few days for them to install a hydraulic pump out front with a guard protecting it. So if they did a custom pump, maybe they did something with the 2-point hitch too.

The TA was technically an option. Really most everything on an IH tractor could be an option....but a lot of so-called "southern belles" were ordered without a TA. Less stuff for hired hands to tear up.

The 504 could have came with 3pt Category 1, 3pt category 2, 2pt Fast Hitch, or no hitch and standard U-shaped drawbar. The transmission could be TA, TA Delete (standard transmission), and TA Delete with Fast Reverser (shuttle shift). They had an assortment of options on the hydraulics and power steering also.

Mine has tpto and power steering!---
Also I saw a 460-U on auction that had 2-pt fast hitch,--some sort of ih loader,--and the 6-cylinder engine!---a real beater, but it did start and run---had all the front end welded back together and brought an astronomical high price! thanks; sonny
