Farmall H Seat Spring

There's another informative website (http://www.farmall-h.com/) that advises to replace the large seat spring on the deluxe seat, or "...if the spring breaks in operation you will fall off the tractor and possibly be run over by your implement."

That's an unsettling thought.

How many of you have replaced the large seat spring either on an H, M, or other used tractor you've bought?

Opinions?

Had one break on a factory style seat, just dumped my buttonto the deck hard. I can see where the deluxe after market seat could toss you off. I have listened to John Pucketts dad tel story about the big nut that holds the stock seat spring coming off while driving. That nut spring and all shot up between his legs and past his face. A real eye opener he said.

You could probably fall off, if you weren't holding on to the steering wheel. You have to have a pretty good grip on the steering wheel to keep these old machines under control due to lack of power steering anyway.

One of my friends replaces it first thing, he had one break on him years ago.

My "M" has the pipe seat. First time I loaded my "M" long before I restored it, the head of the bolt sheared up through the pipe. Whole mess coming flying up, knocked my hat off, hit me in the face. My butt went all the way to my shoulder blades when the pipe slammed down on the deck. I was half way up the trailer ramp when it happened...funny now. Not so much then.

Sounds like cheap insurance to just replace it now and not worry about it.

Thanks all.
