Farmall H and PTO Wood Chipper

Postby tatonka82 » Thu Aug 06, 2015 11:56 pm

With the addition of a 3 pt kit, can I run a wood chipper off the PTO of my H while it is in neutral? I am new to the H. It is a lovely tractor.

Thanks,

Jim

It should be able to run a small chipper. Make sure the chipper is rated for a standard 540 PTO and <30HP. For sure it will give it a good workout and make 'er snort.

BE CAREFUL climbing on and off the back of the tractor with the PTO running. It might be a good idea to put a step stool up front so you can climb on and off the front when operating the chipper, so as to avoid the possibility of slipping while climbing down the back and getting tangled in the PTO shaft.

If you can't afford the full "3-point conversion", some mounting brackets can be fab'd of angle iron that can mount it in the same location - it just won't go up and down.

I had an old hammer mill mounted off the back like that.
