H Exhaust Pipe Length

Postby mvhighcrop » Sun Aug 23, 2015 8:10 pm

Can someone tell me the overall length of the 2" threaded pipe between the manifold & the muffler on a "H"?
Thanks,
Buddy

Don't know the "official" length. I would make it long enough so the rain cap on the muffler is higher than your head sitting on the seat. That way the exhaust fumes blow over your head not in your face (most of the time).

My parts manual doesn't give a length. If the illustration is indicative of scale, then the pipe shown in the Parts Manual is about the same length as the height of the exhaust manifold.

Would follow Scrivet's advice. Believe I made mine about 12" long.

I'm a little reluctant to reply because the measurement is a bit tough to get with the muffler attached and the hood in place.

I measured both of mine and came up with same number. From top of manifold to where the pipe ends inside the muffler is 8 inches. Given the threads in the manifold I'm gonna guess the total length at somewhere around 8-1/2 - 9 inches.

Yesterdays Tractor
Short threaded pipe screws into manifold. 10.5 inches lone, 2 3/8 inch outside diameter.

Stieners
This exhaust pipe measures 2-1/4" O.D. X 10-3/8" or possibly longer. The pipe has 2" pipe threads. For some applications, you will have to cut it to the proper length.

I got a 12" double threaded nipple from Lowe's and it was about 1-1/2 Longer than needed; but it didn't hurt anything - I just slid the muffler down to about where it should be and clamped it.

Black iron pipe and not galvanized iron pipe I hope. Heating up the galvanized stuff makes for some nasty fumes.

Yes, it does for a couple of minutes, once the engine gets under load. Stay upwind! Once it has burned off, it's fine after that. Use only at the discretion of those who are cautious...

My local tractor supply sells exhaust pipe and mufflers for tractors. They have a little book for picking out the right one for your tractor. Dunno if they are "official" lengths but they look pretty darn close.
