Buddy Seat for BN

Postby cstoia714 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 10:49 am

I'm getting ready to fab up a buddy seat for my BN. I've picked up a floorboard from an A, seat, springs and a seat. Wondered if anyone had any advice or could share some pictures of theirs. Thanks.

I will be doing one, this winter, for Billy Steers. ("Tractor Mac" author) Haven't completed the design, yet. Shouldn't be too complicated. I might fabricate a foot rest, rather than use a floor pan.

I think I have most of the parts assembled. Guess I need to get to fabricating.

Just got mine done yesterday! It wasn't too bad. I made a template of each back corner on the floor pan and then just transfered it opposite sides and cut it with a cutoff wheel. You will need to add onto the tab side (vertical leg) that bolts to the transmission because it don't reach the back bolt hole closest to axle tube. Then there will not be any holes you can catch on top of the axle tubes unless you weld tabs onto the pan and reach back. The clam shell bracket I just fab'd one up myself and used my original to pattern off of. On the fender side, one factory hole in your floor will line up with the furthest hole forward on your fender. Just drill the back one and bolt thru your fender as well. The small triangle bracket on your floor pan can be chiseled and cut off then re-welded on the other side so you can drill another hole in your fender and bolt there as well. You will notice the triangle piece is inset in the floor pan so it stays flush with the outer edge of the floor pan. I just cut a small inset in the pan and welded the triangle piece back in and it worked slick! Cut the brake latch flipper and rod out so it don't interfere with your brake rod linkage. I grabbed a factory foot rest from junk yard so it bolts right into floor pan and matches the driver side! I can try and take some pics for you sometime this week. Cheers hope all this makes sense!

Pan with triangle bracket moved to fender side. Cut out a slit so it stays flush with pan!

Add onto vertical leg of pan so you can catch the factory threaded bolt hole in trans case to bolt the rear of the pan to. I used 3/16" flatbar 1" wide by a couple inches long welded to pan. Then hold up to tractor, mark hole on your added piece and drill.

Even with no threaded holes in top of axle tube the pan is solid as a rock. I thought I was going to have to add some tabs to the pan and run back to the flat top on axle tubes but I don't think it will be necessary with all the other bolts catching. I have stood on the pan and jumped and it don't flex at the back by the axle tube. But up to you if you want to add more support or drill and tap axle tube to add more bolts. Honestly you won't need them if you fab up as I have shown. Good luck!
