distillate vs gas carburetor Model B

Postby Shalenkur » Tue Jul 07, 2020 6:42 pm

Okay my B has never ran quite right, but it always starts easy it's a 1941 crank start. I just realized after reading the service manual that my tractor has the "distillate" carburetor, not the "gasoline" carburetor. The distillate carb, according to the manual, has a needle valve on the bottom and the gas carb has a plug. My tractor always seems to run rich and the oil seems diluted slightly by fuel, even after adjustments. Does anybody think or know if it is okay to run gas continuously through the gas carburetor? Or am I possibly mistaken and this is actually a gas carb?

thanks for any input
Jesse

Make and model number of the carburetor. And/or several photos of the carburetor and manifold from different angles.

Won't hurt anything to run the tractor full time on gasoline.

A lot of the duel fuel tractors were either utilized on gasoline or when repaired converted to gasoline.
I have an excuse. CRS.

The only noteworthy difference between the gasoline and distillate carburetor is the adjustable main jet on the distillate carb. The adjustment is there so it can be tuned for either gasoline or distillate. If adjusted properly, the engine runs fine on gas.

ok guys, thanks for the replies. What is funny is that the top screw is out 4 turns and the lower screw out only 1/4 which is way different than the manual say for initial setting. This is how it was set since I got the tractor, and like i said it starts easily with crank but seems to have a slight miss when running and puts out a little black smoke. Also the governour is out of adjustment because it wont idle down very far. I need to check the magneto and valves I am thinking when I get the time.
