I am getting ready to paint the carb on our BN other than red any thoughts as to a color and good paint that will hold up. I had it down to bare metal. Unlike the cub ,it is iron. Will rust If I leave it bare. Clear coat over bare metal?
thanks PWL

If you do not paint it, it will rust. I painted the carb on my '45 B Farmall black before I put the kit in. It looks really good and the paint has held up quite nicely.

I would say a bunch of clear coats, I did that on some of my Cadet parts... not the B YET, but it looks very nice...

Just my dos centavos

Go to eastwood.com and under speacialty finishes they have cast iron paint and clears for doing just that. You could bare metal clear it or do the grey cast paint. Either way it will keep from rusting. I think most rebuilders use the clear

Phil,

Next time you're here, we'll check on Big Mike's carb. When I went through it in maybe 2000 I cleaned it well and clear coated it. I thought what the clear did to the bare cast and clean brass looked good. What I don't know is how well it has survived the passing years.
