Is there any difference in the appearence in the regular M vs. the Super M? What about the H vs. the Super H. Can someone tell by just looking at them both what they are?

Many of the changes came about in stages, a few in the H/M before the Supers sere sold. Things such as disk brakes/ standard brakes, and live hydraulics (distributer mounted pump) versus belly pump give a good idea, but are not 100% indicators. The only thing really dependable is the serial plate on the side of the bell housing (assuming it or components have not been changed. H starts with FBH, M with FBK Super H starts with SH and Super m with SM (or with SML if made in Louisville plant)

Other appearance differences would be the small square IH emblem on the top front of the radiator grill rather than the long horizontal Farmall emblem. The later Supers, sometime in '53, had the battery box moved under the seat.

Brakes are the big differance that makes them easy to tell apart.

Disc on the Super Ms

Band on the Ms.

The Supers have stronger Transmissions then Ms.

Again, the very last M's could also have disk brakes.

The Super M transmission was also geared a little faster.
