Farmall Cub

I looked at the tires on that Farmall M. The rear tires say 12-4 x 36. The guy who owns the tractor told me that I was not reading them correctly and the true tire size should be 13.6 x 38

Ok, I'm trying to locate tires fir this bad boy and have no idea what tire size I should be asking for. Where would be a good place to get tires? Do you guys order your tires or try to find them locally.I would like to just find a couple of used ones, but I don't know if I will be able to.

I want to take just a minute and thank all who have answered my previous questions. You have been a huge help. I just hope I don't wear out my welcome with all my questions.

Before you look too hard make sure just which size they are. The 38" rears would be the most common and correct size but the available widths changed some over the years and tire nomenclature changed as well. 13.6 X 38 would probably be the most common side. If for some reason the one you are looking at does indeed have 36" rims they might be harder to find.
If there is a tire dealer in your area that does agriculture tires they may be able to find a good pair of used tires for you. I'd start there.

I agree with Bigdog, 38" is far more common, on an "M". 36" would be an uncommon size and, no doubt, hard to find. If local tire dealers can't help you out, watch for swap meets in your area, you often find decent used tires at them.

hope it doesn't have 36" tires, I looked for a LOOOOONG time for 1 tire for my Super C, (they came with 36's) and my local tire dealer said that they didn't have any, and wouldn't be able to get any because there was no production date set for anywhere, even overseas, whether this is true or not, it seemed to apply, because I checked with many people and they said nope, but I didn't manage to find a new tire after about a year for 180$ which was very very cheap so i had a friend pick it up the next day... if you don't NEED a new set of tires, don't get them, just my opinion because new tires are very very expensive in my book anyways....

I found 8 ply 13.6 x 38 today for 295.00 each, plus 30 each to put on. It could have been a lot worse, I'm not complaining. I'm still on the fence with the tractor, but at least I know how much into this ole girl I'll be. I hope he will come down a tad. He has some implements I'm interested in as well, so maybe a package deal might work. He's also willing to haul it the 25 mile trip to my house. I figure that's gotta be worth something for his time, gas and trouble.

$295 is a good price. $30 is high. The hauling is certainly worth $$$. It takes a BIG trailer to haul that bad boy.

In this area that would be a good price for tires, and about average for installation. don't forget tubes.
