I recently bought a Farmall 400 with a wide front end, I am wondering exactly what it takes to switch the front end to a single front end?
Thanks
Noah

I don't know what is involved, however if you do switch and if the wide front end will fit a Farmall M, I'm interested in talking to you about buying it . I'm sure you will get an answer on the forum.
Thanks Berlin

It should be an easy change. The narrow front pedestal will bolt right up the the plate on the bottom of the steering bolster. 4 bolts should be all there is to it. There is a wedge shaped shim that needs to be installed correctly. Thick part to the front which will kick the pedestal slightly rearward to aid in steering ease.

Bigdog gave the Cliff's Notes version, all correct. Here are a few details that you need to be aware of (at least if all is the same as an M).

The wide front uses wheels/bearings the same as an H, lighter than an M NFE. So if you are going to 2-wheel narrow front, you should get a bolster complete through the hubs. If you are getting a single wheel front, the different wheel is obvious and didn't need my comment.

The 4 bolts that hold the bolster are different than the ones that hold the center steering arm. One on particular has a nub on top of the head that limits how far the wheels can turn. You need to be sure to get that bolt and put it in the right position. It is best to get all 4 bolts with the bolster.

The wedge Bigdog mentioned is an aftermarket item to help with steering problems. If all is reasonably tight, it isn't needed.

I've got an extra narrow front left over after I switched my 400 to wide front. $100 would take it if you're interested. It's a bit heavy to ship but could be done.
