Hope everyone is doing well. I have been surfing the forum for knowledge lately. Thanks to all for that.
I finally got an M that I had been looking at since back in the spring. It is in pretty good shape. The starter went out just before I unloaded it at the first show it went to. Luckily not after.
It needs a few things, mostly cosmetic. I was surprised how much bigger it was than my B. The starter rebuilder says to be careful tightening the bolt that attaches the battery lead to the starter. It twists off the connection inside easily. Anyone have any advice on that before I install it ?

Good advise from the rebuilder. That post is fragile. Make sure he has installed the new type starter drive. You're going to love that M.

I spent most of this past weekend doing maintenance on it. I enjoy that as much as anything for some reason.

No starter? No problem! M's came with a crank didn't they? Dad could crank the M but I couldn't even turn the engine over. If yours is still 6 volt they can be slow cranking. We used two batteries in parallel in winter or more likely parked the M behind the M's starter - the H. The M is a nice tractor and you have a good looking one. They are big enough for serious power. If you get the chance drive a Super M, make it work. Vern

And the neat thing about an M is the engine is at eye level.

Thanks Vern, I wanted to drive that thing really bad so I fabbed a crank Sat. It wasn't as hard to crank as I thought it would be. It helped being a good size guy too. I had to free up the crank mechanism in the tractor first. I am not sure it had ever been used. It is at a good level for motor work for sure !

The old Ms were very good tractors, but due to the size of the engine you need to make sure that the battery cables are in very good shape, the terminals clean and tight, etc. They crank over slow, but if the ignition, fuel system, etc. are i good shape they take off and go almost as soon as the first piston passes TDC.

I graduated high school weighing 126 pounds. No way could I crank that thing. I grew later, no comment on current tonnage. Vern
