These came with a JD 50 tractor with a set of cultivators/planter. I assume they go on there somewhere, but I really have no idea. Thanks

Thomas:

John Deere part - TractorPart.com

That is the only hit I was able to get that was even tractor related. No idea what it mounts to but would assume planter/cultivator or something similar.

I have been debating giving this answer ever since I saw them, but make me think of a heavy duty sports cup. :?

John:

I thought it was P1342-B as well and googled that. Got nada. Then I looked at it a number of times again and realized it was actually an 8 and not a 3. At least that one generated a hit. Unfortunately it doesn't tell us what it is a part for.

Yard art ??? probably.

Haha thanks for the laughs guys! I really would like to know what they are. If y'all know any JD guys I could ask, I would appreciate your help. This is for a buddy of mine. He does have some farmalls, but he leans toward the JD. I told him he will come around one day! :-)

Our local tractor club has several John Deere nuts enthusiasts in it, so Included a picture in the newsletter along with a request for help. Maybe we will learn something more about your mystery items.

nothing special about doing it, I print and mail the newsletter and it just happened that these were fresh on my mind while setting it up, so I included it.

Local tractor club meeting last night, one member said, " I don't know, but have a pair hanging in my shed". Another member said he did find the number doing an internet search. He said they were listed as part of a fertilizer attachment for a JD planter. I have no experience with JD planters, but looking at it I would suspect the rod attaches to the planer frame and the "cup" goes over the bottom end of the fertilizer drop tube, either to hold it in place or to keep dirt clods, etc. out of the tube.

Well I found out what they are! They are throw out clutch rods for JD 50(60,70) planter/fertilizer setup. For throwing planter drive out of gear when it's raised. Thanks for the help!
