782 Misses and dies

Postby Super A » Tue Aug 26, 2014 6:42 pm

My "new" 782 is really showing itself. It will run for 10-15 minutes, then begin to miss, lose power, and die, usually accompanied with some loud backfires. IT won't start back up until it cools off. At first I thought it was the coil, replaced that and the problem persists. I have cleaned out the strainer in the gas tank, and I replaced the fuel line to the pump--I routed it through the firewall in a different spot to try to keep the line as far from the engine as possible. Now, the previous owner had installed a small NAPA inline fuel filter. I replaced it as well. I noticed when it died the last time that the filter was practically empty, when it was sitting there cold the filter was half full. As I understand it these little pumps either work or not, but it sure appears the fuel is not getting to the engine. What else could be causing this? What else should I check?

thanks,
Al

Don't rule out a condenser. I've had a couple on the cadets that gave me a problem.

I was having some run issues on my 782 and replaced the condenser / points. Made a big difference and you can purchase at NAPA or local auto parts store.
