Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Still working on the CC 1450 and trying to identify the mower deck that is on it. I'm not familiar with cub cadet deck models and sizes, and thought you guys could help. I can always measure it but would also need to know exactly how their measured other than "straight across". She runs good and I'm gonna fix it up and use it a little while.
Wanting to order blades and belts for it.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Stan, I see that several sized mower decks came with this model CC. Just trying to determine which one I have since all of the decaling and the data plate has been painted over with brown primer. I didn't know if there was a particular way to measure the deck (from the top). I understand if I measured the blade cutting width (with deck upside down) that should give me the correct answer, but I wasn't able to do so. Last night I measured from the outside edges of the front "loops"/skids. I got 44 inches. I also measured from one edge of the deck to the other side at the back of the little "bump" at the discharge chute.....I got 50 inches there.
If any of the numbers on the data plate help I can post that picture, as some of it is still legible.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
If the MTD CC Model number is available the original deck size is probably incorporated in that number. I will send you a pdf file to the email address in your signature that shows the info for a 1000 series. EDIT: pdf file sent, see page 2 for the deck information. Let me know if this does not work and I'll get it to you another way.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Probably a 44A or 50A deck.
Size is determined by measuring outer blades tip to tip.

Based on the pics of your CC and mower, most probably a 44A deck.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
There's usually a part number stamped into the blade or just take one to a shop and it can usually be "matched".

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Thanks for the replies guys. Here are the numbers off the tag. Im thinking either a 44A or 50 A too but need to figure it out to order parts. Wish I was near it to flip it over and measure.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
You will probably have to dismount the mower deck anyway. This will give you a chance to check the spindle condition, measure the blades, and belt.

Exactly. I was just trying to get parts before the weekend.
Question about spindles. Is ANY play bad?

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
My local auto parts store can have the mower blades next day. Same with the belt if it's not in stock.
Up and down play can usually be adjusted from the top of the spindle. Side to side play after up and down adjustment, problem.

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Since you don't have access to the deck at the moment, it's difficult to verify the actual size. I have a 782 with a 44C that is basically the same size as your 1450 and my deck sticks out about the same. Yours would be a 44A. The "A" is a 1/2" belt, the "C" is a 5/8" belt. Partstree.com has your diagram of both tractor and deck. Try http://www.onlycubcadets.net for a 1450 manual (don't have to join the site; scroll down to "Technical Library - Tractors," then go to page 4, and the 7th item down labeled "Manual - Operators Q/L Series"; can download a PDF of the 1450 Owner's Manual). Although, there are many very knowledgeable people on that site who know every nut and bolt of your 1450, so joining up would be a suggestion.
Your best bet is not to order any belts/parts until you get to the tractor and take some measurements. Auto parts stores like NAPA and O'Reilly usually sell Gates Power Rated belts. Take your old belts into the store and size them up. But you'll know pretty quick when you measure across the widest part of the deck/blade tips whether it's a 44" or 50".
BTW: If you have any side-to-side play in the spindles, that means they're shot. There are steel and aluminum spindles. I believe the steel ones are the oldest design. The aluminum spindles can be disassembled and have replaceable bearings; not so for the steel. I did a deck overhaul on my 44C some time back and posted pics. Thanks so much for that reference info and spindle rebuild link. Exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Now I've just got to get to the mower to take measurments. I guess I wouldn't need the belt this weekend anyways. I've decided to really tear into it (pull engine and front end - do motor mounts, steering upgrade and paint).

Re: Help Identify Cub Cadet Mower Deck
Got the deck off and it’s a 44A (44” cut). 2 spindles have about 1/16” play and 1 end spindle has approx. 5/16” play. Are these the ones that can be rebuilt or do you just have to replace them all together?

Where are the gussets on the aluminum spindles in relation to the pictures I posted? Do I have to take the deck apart further, or is it obvious that I have steel spindles?
