I been wanting to use a cub cadet for a towable log splitter. I need a live pto in the rear. How do we by pass the gear reduction box to use the full rpm from the engine? Or do we need to use a fcub or 145 tranny? I have two fcub pto’s sitting here.

Have you thought of installing a bypass block on a f-cub and using its hydraulics to power a splitter?
Just figured I’d throw that out there ;)

The fcub hydraulics won’t run a 5” or 6” bore cylinder x 28” stroke. We’re around 27 gallons per minute pump.

The first splitter I built ran 25 years. The second one I sold. This needs a bigger engine I want a towable compact wood processor. Going to need a service hyd pump to run everything but the splitter. The lift table, grapple crane, hyd winch. Sons project.

I used a 10 HP Kohler engine from a Cub Cadet, with Lovejoy spider coupling connected to a dual stage hydraulic pump for a 24 ton slog splitter.

Out of pocket was the dual stage hydraulic pump, Lovejoy spider coupling and hydraulic cylinder. Everything else, including hydraulic hoses, was from on hand stuff.

What about a cub cadet original? Isn’t the pto one to one on it like an F-Cub?

The big cylinder, what won’t split it cuts through it.

If you have a Cub Cadet with the rear PTO, it DOES spin at engine speed, just like the PTO on a farmall Cub.
