Rudi: To answer question 1- Check out Roland's post on Aug 17th...(Illust. 13) It shows a QA36A-QA42A thrower attached to a WF (like the 108 you are working on)

Note both attachment points of the lift rod

To answer question 2- Without going out and rooting in the shed to 'uncover' my thrower

Here is a way to get the measurement you need:
Attach the thrower to the tractor, then jack the tractor up, and place pieces of 1/2" plywood (or something similar) under each tire. Place the lift handle all the way forward, and measure the distance between the lift handle's hole to the hole for the lift rod on the thrower 8)

By placing the tractor up a 1/2", and putting the lift rod all the way forward, you are simulating 'float' needed for the thrower to follow contours of the driveway etc.

Rudi:

To add to what Bill described, this is what I done. I raised my Cub like Bill mentioned. I puchased a piece of 3/4" Square Tubing - 30" long. I drilled (1) 1/2" hole in one end, and then I drilled (3) 1/2" holes at the other end about 1" apart. I bought (2) clevis type pins (1/2" x 1-1/2") I connected one end to the lift bracket on the Snowthrower and the other end on the lift mechanism of the Cub. The three holes gave me the flexibility to adjust for the amount of float and rise I wanted.
