These are Cub Cadets my kids use to cut grass with. At one time they had belly mowers on them, but it took so long for them to cut five acres, so I ended up putting trail mowers behind them. Now they cut in third gear with out a problem.

Back when I had time to cut the grass I used a 2N Ford with a 60” Woods belly mower. It was too dangerous for twelve – fourteen year old kids (in my opinion) to use, so I decided on the Cub Cadets.

One is a 107 and it has a 10 hp. Engine and the other tractor model (1981 year) I’m not sure of, has a 13 hp Engine on it. Both tractors have manual transmissions like the Farmall Cubs have.

The Cub Cadets will out run the Ford when cutting the grass with the trail mowers.

Do you have any plans to restore them? That's a neat little trailer behind the 13 h.p. Did you make it?

Country,

Both tractors have factory made trail mowers behind them. The larger Cub Cadet pulls a 44” mower and the smaller Cub pulls a 48” mower.

What you see homemade is on the smaller tractor’s trail mower wheel setup. That particular mower was setup to pull like a hay wagon. I redid it to a direct hitch. It’s a heavy mower, but the tractor handles it fairly well.

The hood on the smaller Cadet is homemade because I bought the tractor without it, so I made one. I was told the tractor was used by an IH dealer as a pull tractor at County Fair’s. It had dual exhaust straight up through the hood area.

The engine was modified and worn out when I bought it. It also had big cleat type rear tires on it which I took off and put turf type on. I sold the rear tires / wheels which paid for used rear turf tires, wheels and parts for the engine overhaul.

Both tractors are in excellent shape. Of the two, someday, I’ll probably restore the older one.

At this time I’m in the middle of restoring a ‘53 Farmall Cub. When I get it done the older Cadet will be next in line.

Jack,
The "Other" on looks a lot like the Quiet Line sieres of Cub cadets. If it is a gear drive, than most likely it is a 12Hp. THe engine would then be a Kohler K301ASQ. If you can get the numbers off the engine and the S/N off the frame I can hook you up with an age and HP.

Tedd,

I think you’re correct on that. That particular tractor I have never really had any major repairs on.(Except for a clutch) The engine sets on rubber mounts and one other thing I notice different from the other Cadet, is when you shut the engine off it will turn forever like it has a big flywheel on it. It does run very smooth.

When I bought it, about 10 years ago, it had 100 hours on it. I thought the hour meter was broken, but found out the tractor was never used. It has been a very good tractor for my use.

For some reason I thought I saw 13 hp on the side of the engine.

I’m trying to get brave enough to go out in my shed (not heated) to work on my other Cub. If I make it I’ll check the serial number.

Thanks

Jack Fowler

Tedd,

The Serial Number for the later Cub Cadet is (On the International Harvester Co. tag) 2050055U531598. Also if you could, can you give me the year on the 106? S/N #20500370319900.

Thanks,

Jack,

The 106 was built in Dec. 1970. The 733rd. one off the line for the month.
The 1200 was built in Nov. 1975. The 1559th one off the line for the month.

The 1200 may also be a 800 or 1000. The engine will tell you which it is. 8, 10 or 12 Hp. I'm guessing that it is the 1200 with the deck you pull around.

Dang, Bigdog. :P You gave away my secret information source.

Yep, that is where I get my information. It is limited to International Harvester production only. 1960 to 1981 Also, the tractor in guestion has to be a "Garden Tractor".

I have been on there forum for about a year and a half.

To be fair, there is an alternate (sp?) board/forum for Cub Cadets.
http://www.ihregistry.com
Also know as the Southern Cub Gang. They are a good bunch of people.

My knowlage is limited to the 70/100 series and other gear drives. The Hydros are not my cup of tea.

Tedd,

Thanks for the info. The older one is newer and the newer one is older than I thought.
I don’t know where I came up with 1981 on the later one…..Oh well.

The later one is a 1200 series garden tractor. It’s hard to believe they put an eight horse in
that size of tractor.

Thanks again,
Jack Fowler

Jack, Tedd

Both tractors are a year older, the 106 was built in Dec 1969, and the other one (a 1000 by the "kind" code, the three numbers before the "U") was built in Nov 1974. Tedd, remember that Nov and Dec on the chart are the PRECEDING year. As you read across a line, the months run from Nov of the preceding year to Oct of the listed year. I have to redo that listing because it confuses most people.

Paul,

Thanks for the correction. I was just guessing on the Quiet Line.

So that means he has a pair of 10Hp tractors.

If the kind codes are right, I understand there is some question on some of them from the Q/L's. If he can get the model number or HP off the engine, that would better.
