2 HP (the 127 is a 12 HP Hydro and the 147 is a a14 HP hydro):D the 147 is more popular because of the 2 HP(the 147 may have an electric lift from the factory). Why don't you buy both? You have to look to see what you get with each one, 3 point, electric lift over armstrong, mower deck(laerger is usually better) and if they have any extra implements and the condition of each tractor.
The Geezer from IHregistry.com which crashed and is now Cub Cadet Collectors.

When in doubt buy both !!!!!! The 147 is a nice machine with plenty of power. My neighbor has one with an FEL.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: cadet 147
My 147 came with factory ele. lift, ---which was junk and I took it off and tossed it in the garbage. I just stuck a pipe over a short flat bar bolted to one of the ele. tabs and works perfect and fast! ---147 hydro is a real work tractor for its size! other than knocking a piston and rod out a few times, and the balance gears are not in it anymore!---still plants spuds and pushes the blade that came with the #80 hydro that the trans went out of ! thanks; sonny

Yeah I agree, try to get a "package deal" on both of them AND whatever else he has.
IF you can only get one and if it's not going to be a full restoration project then you really want to pick the best machine for the money.
Not really needing another Cub Cadet myself, I would go for the 147, or both.

Re: cadet 147
FWIW, the 147 was the all time top-of-the-line in the narrow frame tractors. It was the only 14hp narrow frame produced by IH, and as such it has a factory gusseted frame to accommodate the larger engine which is not found on any other narrow frame. These are, as I understand it, widely sought after by pullers. Also, it came standard from the factory with headlights and electric lift, which were optional on other models, and the headlight panel which fits the 147 is one of the most expensive to purchase aftermarket (as, on eBay). Granted, you may not want to actually use the electric lift, but if working, they can fetch good prices on eBay as well. Take it all around, the 147 has much more potential than the 127 - it is much more desirable as a restoration tractor, and if you want it as a worker you can change it over to manual lift, sell the electric lift, and recoup part of your investment.
