I'm at the end of the trail with the CC 104 and CC 106 K241A's. Both of the engines will start to spit, spudding, backfire, loose power and die. This happens when the engines are warm to hot. If I pull the choke out the engine will run okay for about 30-45 seconds and start the spitting, spuddering, backfire, loose power and die. The things I have done are:
1) cleaned fuel systems and carbs
2) set points with timing light. The CC 106 has new pionts and condenser
3) Cleaned exhaust value and reset valve lash to spec.
4) Changed coils. The CC 104 will get the coil off the wifes CCO tomorrow night
5) All wires checked for cracks
Things I have not done and that is the bushing/washer for the throttle shaft. I not sure if a worn throttle shaft hole would make the engines do this? I will have to check everything again. The CC 106 engine is down for a rebuild and I will like to figger this out on the CC104 so I can correct it on the CC106 at this rebuild time.

Re: K241a Problems
You say that you set the points with a timing light, I understand that procedure but what is the gap measurement when the timing has been set? If the points end up with too little or too much gap it might cause a problem like you're experiencing. You may have to compromise in this area. Otherwise, I'd be certain that fuel is flowing properly to the carb and that the tank is properly vented. It could even be an improper fuel cap.

Re: K241a Problems
It pays to recheck....... I need to take notesand make a maintain log for all my CC tractors. I thought I cleaned it, but I guess not. The carb was the problem with the CC104 and it dirt in side. Its' in the carb cleaner can. I placed the CC106 carb on and she is running nicely. I have to work on the main jet seat, the screw drive slot is not catching and screw drive slips around the slot.

Re: K241a Problems
Check your fuel flow when it happens...if it's weak or slow, loosen the gas cap and see if it improves...
