The voltage regulator on Aron's Cub Cadet 100 is dead.
What do any of you recommend as a replacement?
Least expensive would be a plus - but not necessarily the most cost effective long term from what I understand.
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Voltage Regulator for Cub Cadet 100
New import VR's have been known to have a history of sticking contacts. I would bite the bullet and buy the correct one from a Cub Cadet or Case IH dealer, and Case IH may be cheaper that Cub Cadet.

Re: Voltage Regulator for Cub Cadet 100
I'm using a voltage regulator for a 56-53 Buick, or Chev trucks 63-55, or IH light trucks 63-53 - or fits older cars, trucks, farm, industrial, marine.
Engine management illustrated parts catalog part number is : VR-20. 25 amps, pos or neg ground for DR generators.
Is is the lowest amperage voltage regulator I could find in the catalog. Not overly expensive, works on my Cadets.

Re: Voltage Regulator for Cub Cadet 100
I would remove the cover and clean the contacts first. Then polarize it. If that doesn't do it then you need a replacement.
There is a guy here with electrical parts but i forget his name. I purchased a few parts from him and his prices weren't bad.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Bill,
Explain the polarizing part of the process. I already cleaned the contacts. They seem like they are adjustable. Is there a gap setting?
Thanks,
Peter

Forget about needing to polarize it. The starter/generators are polarized every time you hit the starter switch.

Re: Voltage Regulator for Cub Cadet 100
What is the correct gap between the contacts?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: Voltage Regulator for Cub Cadet 100
Peter, don't get impatient, I understand you may not have time to do some web searching for the information you need, but you have to understand it may take someone else a couple of days or so to find the information for you, and get it posted.
The voltage regulator contains two units, Voltage Regulator (VR) and Cutout Relay (CR). For the VR, the Air Gap is .075", the Setting Range is 13.6 to 14,5 volts. Adjust to 14 volts. For the CR, the Air Gap is .020", the Point Opening is .020, the Closing Voltage is 11.8 to 14 volts. Adjust to 12.8 volts.
Or you can go here and it will tell you how to do it, http://ihregistry.com/books/GSS-1369.pdf . It is a PDF file and requires Adobe Reader. Give it time to download and scroll down to numbered page 1-27 (The tool bar will show pg 31/98 or page 31 of 98) . The file is the Engine Service Manual for models 71-123, but the procedures are the same for your 100. The Engine manual for the 70/100 is not loaded on the site, the 70/100 Chassis Service was inadvertly loaded in it's place.
