Value of a 1512 Diesel Tractor?---PICTURES ADDED

Hi, I just found locally a Cub Cadet 1512 tractor that I'm interested in for sale.

It seems to be really clean with 400 hours showing on the hour meter. It starts, runs and drives really nice. It includes a 50" deck and a Snowblower, and rear wheel weights, although I didn't think to check the model of the snow blower.

How common are 1512's?
What is the going rate for for something comparable?

Thanks! Rob

Rob,
The 1512 was the newer version of the 782D, that Cub Cadet Corporation started building after the end of the *82 series tractors. It is identical to a 782D, and should have the Kubota, 3-cylinder diesel engine. It is a great machine, and with only 400 hours on it, it should be mechanically like new. It's hard to say what it's worth, but I have seen really junky 782 diesels go for $1500 to $2000. The diesel Cub Cadets were pretty low production, and of interest to anyone who likes Cadets.

It probably has the newer version,45", 2-stage snow blower with it. They are good snow blowers, but not nearly as heavily constructed as the QA-42A snow blowers, and they tended to rust out really bad. They used a lighter gauge steel on the 2-stage snow blowers, probably to lighten up the overall package. Check the inside of the fan housing for rust through on the bottom of the housing, where it is welded to the auger housing.

If you're looking for a real workhorse Cub Cadet, then it's definitely worth going after.

Thanks Bill for your input!

I have been looking at 1512's online which rose another question.....I've seen 1512's with two different hood decals. I've seen what I would assume is an earlier decal like an 882 with the thick black stripe and other's (like the one I'm looking at) with more of a blue stripe like a later CC.

Is my assumption right that CC changed the decal design part way through production of the 1512? If so, when did they change?

Thanks again! Rob

Rob,
Yes, there were a couple of decals. I have seen one that was like the black one, only it was grey/silver instead of black. They only built the 1512 from 1985 to 1987. It was the replacement for the 882, and was 15-hp just like the 782D and 882. I believe that the black hood decal was 1985 and 1986, then it was switched in 1987 to the blue stripe, because that color scheme followed in the next series of Cub Cadets in 1988 through the early 1990s.

Thanks Bill!

Well, The excitting news is that I did purchase the 1512 tonight.....it's really a sweet little tractor and am excitted to start playing with it. I just checked the serial number (753457) and it shows to be a mid-1986 model and has the blue stripped hood decal. I'd be curious to know when CCC switched to this decal.

The snow thrower is a 190-450-100 model that looks to be in really nice shape. I really don't have a use for the blower and will probably sell it to offset some of the tractor cost. What does a blower like this sell for?

Thanks again, Rob

Some people have all the luck! :-:-): :-:-): :-:-): Oldiron, I'm green with jealousy.  Where I live - NC, Cub Cadets are hard to come by. I waited for over 5 years before I finally found a Cub Cadet for sale that I could buy. Most that I did see were gone before I could even contact the PO.

Good luck with your new machine. I'm sure you'll have many years of use and pleasure from it.

Thanks! Cub Cadets in general don't seem to be all that hard to find here in Wisconsin, however Diesels are.

I unloaded it off of the trailer last night after work, greased the deck spindles and went strait to cutting some grass....and I love it!

I'm having alot of fun with the 1512 that ended up following me home last week and thought I'd get pictures of it and a couple pictures of it posed next to it's brother, the 782D.

Looks like a couple of "Cubota" engines, judging from those exhaust pipes

If that's your barn in the background, will you adopt me :?:

Wow! You made a nice find. I didn't realize that you already had a 782D. Now you've got twins. They both look to be in great shape. You don't find many of those any more, let alone in such good shape.

Congrats!

Bill E Bob-
Sure, we can take you in. The one thing about a barn, shed or garage is that no matter how big you build it, it's never big enough!

Bill & Jeff-
Thank you! I love the pair of Diesel twins....they're adicting little tractors. The 782D has about 800 hours on it and has been repainted. This one of my favorite tractors with the 3pt. hitch as it's a mini farm tractor. The 1512 is completely original which is really what drew me to it with 400 hours on it.

Thanks again! Rob
