I have refab pto top mainshafts for both orig and 70-124 3 speed cub cadets. I have one listed on ebay now. Occassionally I put a complete kit on ebay. I also supply full conversion instructions.

let me correct a couple of things. the Kohler engine turns the same as the cub engine...but... the input into the transmission on an original is through a gear reduction housing which reverses the rotation of the top shaft. that is why the ring gear is on the opposite side...to reverse it back..

that gear reduction is in the order of 6 to one ( or 7 to one, i dont remember)...meaning that the cub cadet transmission is turning 1/3 the speed of the cub transmission because it turns 3600 rather than 1800. that, coupled with the typical use of a cub cadet vs a cab. the cub cadet was typically used 1 hour a week to mow the lawn...and the cub was used 12 hours a day cultivating....that differential of use and the speed difference makes the cc transmission desirable to help breath new life in worn out F Cubs

just use the same second gears when you make the switch to avoid the different tooth counts clashing.

there are several transmissions that can be used to swap out parts. some of them incorporated a wet brake and that had a countershaft that was longer than the std cub. you can cut that shaft off, or make a differant grease retainer for the bottom to accomodate the longer shaft. the CC transmission allowed grease to flow out the bottom shaft to the gear reduction mentioned earlier...we need to cap that off for the Cub

Art,
Let me make a correction or two if I may. The Kohler engine does turn the same way as the Cub engine (CW) , HOWEVER, the engine is mounted backward in a Cub Cadet and the tractor is driven off the flywheel end of the crank, so as installed in the Cub Cadet, it is is actually turning CCW. As it goes thru the gear reduction on the front of the transmission (7 to 1) it turns the top shaft in the trans CW, the same as in the Cub, but the gear reduction in the Cub is in the "finals" or drop boxes which change the direction again, so that is why the ring gear in the Cub is on the opposite side from the one in a Cub Cadet. The total gear reduction on the Original with the different size pulleys for the drive belt and the reduction gear on the front of the trans is also right at 7 to 1 like the other Cub Cadets.
