Farmall Cub

My brothe just bought an International Cub Cadet 128. The tractor will not start, we tried hooking jumper cables directly to the starter generator and it still wont start. Everything is free and the safety switch is bypassed. I am not sure if the wiring is good or not. When the cables were hooken to the starter, it wouldnt even turn over. Is this a short in the wiring?? Also when I would move the cables on the terminals they would spark but not turn the starter. If you could please help me. Thanks Ray

The starter/generator should have been motorized (turning) if you jumped the positive battery/jumper cable to the s/g's bat(tery) terminal, and the negative jumper cable to a good ground.

If I understand correctly, that is what you did. Problem is the starter/generator.

Agreed, you have a problem with your starter/generator but keep in mind in may not be your only problem.

The first suspect is a bad battery. If your jumping from the CC battery it's probably shot. Try jumping it from a truck or car battery. If it turns over and don't start check your spark. If it don't turn over hooked to the Battery try putting the red on the starter A terminal and touching the - to a good ground. If it don't turn over fast it's the S/G.

it was hooked to a battery on another cub cadet that starts every time without a problem. And suposidly the starter was rebuilt recently. Also the wiring might be shorting somewhere, but we are not sure. would this cause it to not turn over??

If you have a good ground connection and you put the positive jumper cable on the starter lug with the large wire on it it should spin the starter.
Hook the ground from the jumper cable directly to the case of the starter, if it works the starter, then you have a bad ground from the battery, if not, the starter brushes may not be making contact.
