Artie is underway! (Pics Added 1-2...6-7)

Well I am starting another project, Artie. It's going to be an articulating cub cadet. I am using two hydrostats to move it. The front hydro will be turned around and the rear hydro will be left facing forward. So I guess it will be 4-wheel drive when it is done. Here are a couple of photos of what has been done so far.

I did a test of it today and the hydro is going to work properly. I had to rotate the charge pump 180 degrees to get the hydro to pump. I started it up and ran the hydro linkage by hand and the tires rotated properly. Now I have to figure out how to connect the rear half. The front half is a 129 and the rear half is going to be from a 147. Here is a photo of the rear half that I will be using.

Oops. Got to run for now. Got to go make dinner for the wife. Got to keep her happy so I can play with these things.

cool, way to go. I been thinking about this for a while now. Can we power both hydro tranny's with one pump? And just run hoses to the tranny in the rear? I think we need to "TEE" each line to each tranny rather than take the exhaust to the other tranny. This would give us the same speed but we may need flow valves to put both tranny's in sync. So one tranny doesn't lag behind with one being closer to the pump over the other one. That would save a lot of time and trouble. Bill
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I don't know about this. I am going to got with the two complete trannys and try it that way. I am going to try and get the linkages as close as possible.

I thought a lot about building one of these a few years ago. I was going to keep both rear-ends facing forward, move the front one as far forward towards the engine as I could get it and use a really short drive shaft. Then run a rear driveshaft off of the back of the front hydro pump, to run the rear hydro. That way both would be spinning the same direction at the same RPM. The rear driveshaft would actually have to be in a few pieces with U joints to incorporate the articulation. I also figured out that you could use cables through guides, to connect the hydro linkage, without having to have solid linkages, and they would incorporate the articulation and should be easy to fine adjust to get the ground speed of both units in line. Regardless of how you go, it's not an easy project. I can't wait to see how Artie turns out.

It's looking great so far. I can't wait to see what the finished tractor will look like. Do you plan on using the tractor to do some work or will it just be a show tractor. If you are going to work it I think it would be cool to build a 3pt hitch and then it would really have a big tractor look. I really hope that one day I will have even a small amount of the skills you have so I can try to build something like this.

I won't work it. It's just another play toy to take to tractor shows (this exercises the jaw muscles) . I have thought about the 3-point hitch though.
