Question??? rototiller sleeve hitch Lift pin

Postby electromech31 » Sat May 21, 2011 8:20 pm

How long is the lift pins lenght?

Im not getting enough depth on the rotoller, maybe 2-3 inches.

I have a two pins for my sleeve lift for my rototiller. I have a 125 cub, and a # 1 U-111 tiller. I had the tractor and tiller sitting on concrete and lowered the tiller the lift chains were loose. But there is little adjustment to the tiller, so im quessing I may have the wrong pin.

The lift pin length is pretty standard, about 4 inches long. The first pictures shows the standard lift pin on a 124, so should be exctly the same as your 125. There were two pins available, and one was special for the tiller, where the attaching hole for the adjusting top link is vertical instead of horizontal. This lets the screw for the adjusting link go up through the lift pin. The lift pin shown here is NOT the right one for a tiller, because it has the horizontal drilled hole for use with Brinly type sleeve hitch implements.

There is an adjusting link that the tillers used. It's basically a piece of pipe with a bolt welded to the bottom, and a cross bar welded to the top, then a long threaded eye bolt screwed up inside of it. This lets you fine adjust the lift height of the tiller, but more importantly, you can see that the chains attach about 4 inches below the lift pin on the sleeve hitch. This is a lousy photo, but you can see the adjusting link.

Here is the lift parts for the tillers.

The lift is set with #10 adjuster, #6 adjusting pin and(#3) 2 chains. These get lost and broken and people use other that may not let you set the depth(your chains sound to be 2 short?

I just rototilled for the first time today with my 125 using a 1A tiller. Here's a couple pictures ( click for bigger pics )
Image Image Image

My next door neighbors wanted to put a garden in this year so they marked a spot in their lawn and I rototilled it. I wasn't able to get full depth until I went thru for the THIRD time. I started going left to right, right to left ( got a little deeper ) and I maxed out on depth when I went across ( up & down ) what I previously tilled.

If you want any other pictures, I can get them for you. Also, my adjustment bolt thru the lift pin is homemade. I used a regular 1/2-13 wingnut put ground a slight radius on the underside to it wouldn't move by itself.

That isn't the right lift rod for a tiller and someone welded a washer on it or they found one with a washer on it as they left the cotter pin out so the pin so it could turn it 90 degrees to have the hole vertical. Most implements come with the lift rod but they get lost or use on another implement. That's an example of parts getting lost an replaced by owner. The lift pin on a tiller can't fall out but on some implements if you don't have the cotter pin in they move to the rear and your implement won't go down all the way or lift to high.

This has been "piece mealed" together. I bought the tiller from one person, the mount and angle drive from someone else and the rear lift from yet another person. The lift pin was stuck in the casting when I got it. It does have a cotter pin on the inside of the lift casting so it will not fall out. I did not install the cotter pin to lock in the "parrellel to the rear axle" position.

If you have the dimension of the proper tiller pin, I will make one at work.

hitchpin.jpg
different lift pins all unknown which implement

I can find the part numbers for the correct pin for an implements but there is no way to know what the dimensions on those pins would be and any way to identify pin once it gets separated from the implement . I have a universal pin that was sold by forum member Jim Steel that had holes for vertical or horizontal and 2 different lift holes. Since I use it on an Original I had to drill a cotter pin hole in the front to use it.

The top pin is the universal pin and the bottom pin is for the Brinly "Original" Plow w lift washer

Geezer,
Is that the correct pin for use with a tiller?

Thanks

The correct pin #9 (485-294-R1 Shaft Assy, Support) came with the tillers and I have no clue what it looks like. The pin with the washer is for the Original plow from Brinly and the pin above it is what was made and sold as a universal pin which I did use when I had my #1A tiller on my Original(I had to cut an angle on the back to get it to work) and I don't remember which hole I used

Not sure why I did not think of this originally. Here is a picture of the correct tiller lift pin, that came with the tiller I showed above in the earlier picture. This is on my 149, which I always used the tiller on. I had my mind set on the picture of the 124, because you mentioned you were working on a 125. Regardless, this one is the one that goes with the tiller.

It is drilled correctly for the cotter pin, which you can see that I do have installed, but the large hole is drilled vertically for the height adjusting screw to go through.

Could get a measurement from the washer to the center of the 1/2" hole?

Thanks

Nope, sorry but I sold that outfit several years ago.
I would guess that it is just about 4 inches, since both ends of the pin were the same length from the washer, and based on Geezer's measurements above, the other end of the pin is 4 5/8" long. Actually by his measurements the center of the hole would be 4 1/4" from the washer
