Red,
NO. Only the tillers made for the 982 (and other super garden tractors) will work. They have the PTO coupler sized appropriately (1-inch rather than standard 1 3/8-inch), and the gear box is set up to handle the engine speed PTO (NOT 540 rpm standard PTO speed), and it turning in the wrong direction. Also, I believe that the 982 and other SGTs are Cat-0 3-point hitch.

Cub Cadet made tillers for their compact diesel tractors, which are Cat-1 3-point hitch and 540 rpm PTO. These will obviously NOT work on a 982 or SGT.

I just saw a tiller for a SGT for sale on Craigslist in Rochester, NY or Finger Lakes (I believe). I'll have to look again. These are getting really hard to find, and I almost just went ahead and bought it because I knew someone would be looking for one.

I would like any info on the 982 tiller. We may have talked on this topic before.

I looked earlier today and could not find it. I cannot remember exactly when I last saw it there, so it may already be gone. If I run across one I'll give you a shout.

I believe you will find that the rear PTO on a 982, or other super, turns at 2000 RPM, not engine speed. It is belt driven through an electric clutch, off the back of the hydro pump, and turns the same direction as the engine and hydro. The rear PTO on a Farmall/International Cub turns backwards and at engine speed, but one in a standard Cub Cadet turns backwards at 514 RPM at a engine speed of 3600 RPM.
