Farmall Cub

A few weeks ago my wife found an ad on Craigslist that got her immediate interest. Someone was selling a Cub Cadet 129, a Cub Cadet 1200, along with two mower decks, a rototiller and a blade. We looked the Cadets over and bought them immediately. These, along with our CC124 and its mower, rototiller, and blade will allow us to have one machine dedicated to each purpose. The 129 has hydrostatic drive and the other two have creeper gears.



Both of the newly acquired machines need carburetor work, but they do run. Do both the 129 and 1200 use the same carb kit? Should I buy new floats along with the kits or should I just take a chance?

This will be the first project to work on in our new 30 by 40 foot shop and storage building. For now there will be plenty of room for two Cubs, three Cadets and a whole lot of implements, but that could change without notice. I have to clean my stuff out of the garage and move it to the new barn. My wife has claimed the garage as her domain, which is only fair. Who knows, maybe we can get a car in there.

Yes, they both use the same carb kit. I wouldn't spend the money for new floats unless they are needed. I have rebuilt many carbs on Cub Cadets, and have yet had to replace a float in one, however, I know others that have, so bad or leaking floats are not unheard of. I have also seen reports on some other forums of people buying new floats that also leaked, but do not know if they were OEM parts or after marker parts.

Nice find on the cubs! Looks like you have the market on 12 horse cubs and attachments . The 129 even has wheel weights. I agree with Paul on the floats. Been into a lot of carbs and have yet to replace a float. The carbs are easy to rebuild and clean up. Be sure to check the throttle shaft for excessive play as they tend to wear and leak air causing a rough idle. Once again, congrats on the finds!

I wouldn't buy a carb kit until I had the carburetor disassembled. A lot of time the carburetors only need a good cleaning.

Hey Ed...NICE HAUL You'll enjoy rototilling your garden with either the 1200 or the 129. The creeper gears will allow you to really pulverize compost, fertilizer, manure, and lime to work your garden up well ...ENJOY THEM Ed...'Country'

As soon as I get the stuff in the barn on the walls and shelves to make enough open floor space I plan on bringing the 129 and the 1200 into the barn to work on them and their implements. I'd like to get them ready for the new season. Our old 124 will be equipped with the blade, the 129 will be our mower, and the 1200 will be the rototilling machine. I am looking forward to having one Cadet with its own purpose so I don't have to do much implement swapping.

The same goes for the F Cubs. The 1948 will have the belly mower and the 1953 will do the other duties as needed.
