What is the best 'kind and grade' of Trans Hydro oil to use in a Cadet 982?
The steering wheel turns a 1/4+ turn so I have adjusted some play out with the knuckles. Will adjusting the screw-lock bolt on the side of the steering box take some play out. The yolk at the front seems sloppy as well....

Good to hear from you. Was out at the NY Steam & Power show in Canandaigua a few weeks ago, and thought I had a plow for you, but it turned out to be all welded on and pretty messed up. Still need to get to my buddy's place to look through what he has.

You need to go with HyTran for your transmission oil. There are some substitutes, but HyTran is still the best. It's a bit expensive, but you only change it once every 250 or 500 hours.

I would pull the pin in the front and get some shim washers to put up in the front yolk. That's a really common problem on the Cadets with the larger front tires. You might be able to use clamps to pull the yolk back together a bit, but it's pretty sturdy and not meant to bend (although they do). The shim washers do a nice job and will definitely take out some of that slop. Unfortunately, the power steering units on those tractors tend to have a bit of play in them, so I don't think you'll ever get rid of all of it.

I thought Hy -Trans might do the trick but wasn't sure.( I think I will use Esso.) There is no use fooling around with cheap oil.
I have my plow problem solved. A local IH club menber was heading down to the 2012 US Red Power meet near St.Louis and picked up my plow in July that I bougtht last year. (I still might go for a set of discs or a rear mount tiller.)

Got some Esso 56 about 6.5 pints...that's not litres.
Drain plug is covered up at rear by hitch etc so had to suck the old oil out. Got a new filter at NAPA.

Are you aware that a Cub Cadet hydro holds 14 pints (7-1/2 quarts) ?
