New Cadets

Postby Brent » Sun May 08, 2005 8:18 am

:? Do the new Cub Cadets you see at Home Depot etc. have anything to do with Case/IH, or did some other manufacturer buy the name and rights?

Brent, IH sold out the Cub Cadet line back in the early 80's. MTD bought it. IH hasn't had anything to do with it since that time. I'm not sure what the lineage is today.

Thanks. I couldn't find any manufacturers name on the one I looked at. Maybe they want to keep it a secret! It did have a Kohler engine in it.

They are built in Brownsville, TN, by Cub Cadet, Cleveland, OH, which is owned by MTD.

The Cub Cadets sold at Lowes and TSC are basically the low end, 1000 series, lawn tractors., built to compete with the other low end lawn tractors. If you want something more like the IH built garden tractors, you need to look at the 2500 and 3000 series, and they are only sold by Cub Cadet dealers. Although these models are several thousand $$$$ ( 3K and up), in todays $$$, the price is very similar to what the IH built garden tractors were in the $$$ of their day. Myself, I would not buy one of the 1000 series tractors, but that is just my opinion.

I will have to say for the money the 3000 series is a good garden tractor. The 2000 and 2500 series are more in line with a lawn tractor, only grounf engageing equipment for them is a tiller, snow blade, snowblower, where as the 3000 series you can get a hydrulic cat.0 3 point and than use a backblade, moldboard plow, disk, cultivator and such.
I used to own a 2186 and a deck & tiller for it, traded it in after 50 hours on a new 3235 with tiller, hydro control snow blade, snow blower.
So in my opinion the 3000 series is way better than the 1000 series and defently a better buy than a 2000 or 2500 series.
Is one cub ever enough ?
