Hello all,
I have a question concerning a 44A deck. I have a cub 1440 that I would like to install the 44A deck from my 108. The front hanger 'U' bolts on the deck are closer together but I can fix that and I thought all was good till I compared the lift frames. They are a little different but if I mix and match parts I think it can be made to work, also the drive belts are a different width. And of course the belt will be a different length. I just was wondering if anyone else had tried this conversion before I do a lot of crawling around . I am recovering from double knee replacement and getting up and down is hard right now. Any help will be greatly appreciated for sure.

Re: Cub Cadet 44A deck
I haven't actually done this, but I've worked on a LOT of Cub Cadets and know enough to tell you that it's not as easy as you think. One of the biggest problems is the 44A has a 3/8" drive pulley and the 1440 uses a 5/8" drive belt. So, you need to change the mule drive pulley on the mower deck, to run it on a 1440. I would bet that you won't want to do it once you look into it further. You basically need a scrap "correct" mower deck that you can swap the parts off of to make the 44A work. I'm not sure that you can even swap the pulley, and may have to swap out the full spindle assembly to make it work. Regardless, I'd be looking for a correct mower deck if it were me.

Re: Cub Cadet 44A deck
I have the original deck from the 1440. It had several places rusted out pretty bad and I have welded patches in it. It will probably last a few years if I clean it out periodically. I was just kind of exercising my options as the 44A deck is really nice and I don't use it on the 108.
Thank you for your input. It sounds like I don't want to be crawling around trying to adapt it.
